Playlists for Every Summer Style

With all the summer trends and style recs hitting everyone’s inboxes as of late, I figured I could dedicate this week’s newsletter to act as a supplement to the existing discourse, by way of one of my longtime obsessions: making curated playlists on Spotify for every possible mood or moment I may experience.

There have been an almost alarming, overwhelming number of album releases in the last two months, and what is music if not the hype beast for your sartorial selections? I had a good time playing around, meshing different vibes together, finding the nuance of each style “personality”. Without further ado, I present to you five playlists that are sure to define the experience you’re meant to have this summer in one of these SS 2024 style trends.

MICRO SKIRTS / SHORTS

Where my brats at??? My notes for this playlist were that it had to be flirty, carefree and unforgiving, c*nty, and a massive “f*ck you I’m amazing” confidence boost for anyone showing some skin on a night out — kitten heels and cheeky graphic tee optional. Put this on while you’re tightlining your eyes, calling the Uber, or speedwalking through the streets. Get your drink on, you man-eating vixen!

DROP-WAIST DRESSES

We hit the ground sprinting with the first one, but for my cutie pie drop-waist girlies we’re gonna tone it down. This is for your wedding guest, dinner party, sing-along, uptempo-twirling-having-a-crush-sugar-sweet-dance-till-your-feet-hurt energy. We’re footloose and fancy free! Don’t worry, Teenage Dream is absolutely included here x

MATCHING SETS WITH CRAZY PRINTS (PROBS FOOD)

Because wearing tomatoes and oysters and olives and random Mediterranean goods deserves its own playlist. This is for your aperitivos, perhaps a backyard garden dinner party; splitting a bottle of wine on a balcony somewhere IRL or in your mind. I picture this girl loving Italian leather and scrunchies bigger than her head. Lean into it and get a little romantic and wistful!

FRESH LINENS

Laundry on the line in the morning breeze. Birdsong. A slow drive down the coast, surrounded by pink skies. Everything is lightweight, and you’re having book club on the front porch curled up in blankets as the evening gives way to the twilight. You feel a little sentimental, but grounded and deeply happy.

SWIMSUIT + BOXERS

Whether it’s a patch of grass, sandy coastline or speedboat, you’ve committed to a full day of tanning so there’s no point in wearing anything more than boxers. Bliss!!!! Set the vibe to the tune of some yacht rock and indie alternative for an idgaf let’s make pancakes lay out all day and finish off with some ice cream on the way back home.
